A total of 11,587 cases of dengue have been reported in Punjab this year, as disclosed by the Secretary of the Punjab Health Department, Ali Jan Khan.
In the latest update, Secretary Ali Jan Khan announced that 232 new cases of dengue have been identified in the past 24 hours. Among these, 139 cases were reported in Lahore alone.
Dengue virus, a mosquito-borne viral disease, has seen a rapid increase in global prevalence in recent years. The primary vectors responsible for transmitting the virus are female mosquitoes, predominantly Aedes aegypti, and to a lesser extent, Ae. albopictus.
This surge in cases underscores the urgent need for concerted efforts in mosquito control and public health initiatives to curb the spread of dengue in the region.
